About the Artists

Joan Ackerman-Zimny (Oil)

The creative process is an integral part of life for Ackerman-Zimny. Drawing and painting are daily activities, giving record to emotions, concepts and musings on the spiritual plane. Abstract in style, her work connects with the individual on a universal level, as through abstractions, we find common ground. Educated at the University of Illinois with a degree in art education, Ackerman-Zimny has been teaching art for many years in public schools throughout the Northwest and Western suburbs. For the past eighteen years, she has been teaching art at Stevenson High School in Lincoln sh ire. She has the privilege of teaching students to develop their skills in drawing, painting and metalsmithing. Ackerman-Zimny has shown her work in galleries in Chicago, Elmhurst, Arlington Heights and Palatine. Her paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the area.

Kathy LaRocco (Collage)

LaRocco is a self-taught mixed media and collage artist. Educated as a microbiologist, her art journey began in earnest after retiring from Abbott Laboratories in 1999 to stay at home with her young children. Her earlier work, rubber stamp art, has been published in several journals including Take Ten, Vamp Stamp News and the Stampers Sampler. Using a variety of media to enhance her rubber stamp images, she quickly discovered mixed media and collage. With the encouragement of family and friends, she has begun to exhibit her work. Recent exhibits include the Conscious Cup Roaster and Cafe and Gallery in the Garden. Today she divided her time between her family, volunteer work and her art.
