Joan Rivers is a force of nature—and one of the hardest working celebrities in the world: comedienne, best-selling author, Tony-nominated actress, playwright, screenwriter, motion picture director, columnist, lecturer, syndicated radio host, Emmy Award winning television talk-show host, jewelry designer, red-carpet fashion laureate, businesswoman and, most importantly to her, mother and grandmother.
Rivers’ big break came along in 1965. A booking on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson made her an instant hit. Her first syndicated talk show on daytime TV, That Show With Joan Rivers, combined with appearances on Carson and The Ed Sullivan Show, made her a household name. By 1983, Rivers was headlining Las Vegas, had a Grammy nominated comedy album and two best-selling books. She went on to win an Emmy and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1994, she wrote and starred in Sally Marr and Her Escorts, which earned her a Best Actress Tony nomination. These days Rivers designs and sells her own line of costume jewelry on QVC and presents a number of shows.
