Musical Theatre Masterclass with Emily Kristen Morris

You can join the class either as a singer or as an observer. Singers will get an average of 13 minutes of one-on-one coaching, while observers will watch and get to ask questions.

Time: 5 PM – 7 PM

This class is all about Broadway-style singing and acting through song! Come learn how to nail your musical theatre material.

The class will include:

  • A musical theatre-focused group warm-up
  • A presentation all about musical theatre vocal technique, acting through song, how to
    nail your MT auditions, common vocal tendencies that might be holding you back, and
    how to improve your vocal strength, agility, balance, and connection
  • One-on-one song coaching (An average of 13 minutes per singer)
  • A Q&A at the end for everyone who attends. Ask Emily about vocal technique, audition
    questions, being a professional NYC actor, what it’s like to do a Broadway national tour…
    all questions are welcome!
  • A photo op at the end of the Masterclass with Emily.
Tuition:
Participant: $125 | RaueNOW FAMILY (25% Discount): $93.75*
Observer: $55 | RNFamilly $41.25*
Required: Students who enroll as singers in either section MUST come prepared with a memorized song. Song should be cut down to audition length (normally 16 – 32 bars) Note: A 16-bar section typically lasts about 30 to 45 seconds, with one minute being the absolute maximum. For a 32-bar section, aim for around 1:15 to 1:30. Remember, the key is to ensure the cut feels right and has a solid musical flow. Students should also have knowledge and some singing experience. Please provide a clean copy of the sheet music of your song (preferably in a small 3-ring binder) for the accompanist.

  • Learn what it takes to make strong choices in an audition room!
  • Emily will also give singing guidance on how to improve their vocal strength, agility, balance, and connection with the song they’re singing.
  • A Q&A at the end for everyone who attends. Ask Emily about vocal technique, audition questions, being a professional NYC actor, and what it’s like to do a Broadway national tour… all questions are welcome!
  • A photo op at the end of the Masterclass with Emily.

Bios

Emily Kristen Morris is an NYC-based actor, singer, dancer, certified vocal instructor, and popular online content creator (1.7 million followers on TikTok). Currently, Emily is starring as Elsa in Frozen at Paramount Theatre. Emily has performed across the nation and internationally and was the Elphaba standby on the Broadway national tour of WICKED. Her past theatre credits include Bea in the national tour of Something Rotten, White Plains Performing Arts Center (Daisy in Side Show), The Rev (Sophie in Mamma Mia), Cape Playhouse, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra (Nellie in South Pacific in concert), Gateway Playhouse, Weston Playhouse, and New York Musical Theatre Festival. Emily has also performed as a solo vocalist with symphony orchestras, including the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in China, and the Norwalk Symphony. Her voice is also featured on Joey Contreras’ new album “In Pieces.” On social media Emily is popular for her voice-teaching videos, her singing covers, and her vocal-coach-reacts videos. When she’s not performing, Emily runs her highly sought-after voice studio, EKM Vocal Studio, where she teaches lessons, masterclasses, and workshops to passionate singers both virtually and in person in NYC. Emily is certified through the Institute For Vocal Advancement (IVA), and received her BFA in musical theatre from the University of Cincinnati; College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).

James Mablin (Resident Music Director) hails from London, England. He has musically directed and/or played Keyboards in over a hundred shows. Favorites include Joseph and the Amazing TechnicoloredÓ Dreamcoat (UK Tour), Whistle Down the Wind (UK Tour), High School Musical (World Premiere – Stagedoor Manor, NY), Caroline or Change (Cyrano’s Theatre Company, AK), Little Shop of Horrors (Thin Air Theatre Company, CO), The Toxic Avenger (Thin Air Theatre Company, CO) and Into the Woods (Slow Burn Theatre Company, FL). As an educator, James ran the musical theatre program at a large college in London, was a professor & musical theatre specialist at The Yale School of Drama, and most recently on the Musical Theatre faculty at Auburn University as their resident Music Director. James was the associate artistic director and head of the music department at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center, named one of the top summer theatre programs in the world. James has written the vocal arrangements and musically directed opening and closing numbers for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade including the Emmy award-winning song “Join Our Parade”. In January of 2024, James stepped into the role of Resident Music Director for Raue Center For The Arts and is currently the Music Director/Conductor for Williams Street Rep’s production of Avenue Q.
